Is it a coincidence that the European Union, with its almost permanent left wing majority, has produced government like that of Blair/Brown in England:
over-centralised and bureaucratic,
over-regulated and sclerotic
undemocratic and with an ultimately ineffective parliament
In short - remote, indifferent to people (even focus groups), and self-serving.

Unfortunately this is the world we live in, show me a government that isn't over over-centralised, remote and indifferent to people.
I don't think the Tories will make a difference to this either, nor any other political party.
But it's good that you've bought it up, it might get the ball rolling.
The Tories seem to be adopting the position of localism - to devolve decisions to the level where electors can judge,(and remove if necessary), or vote with their feet, representatives who do not meet their wishes - with real decisions made by doctors, teachers, police chiefs and local councillors.
If they follow this through, they could have a problem of redundancy for many of the ?400,000 extra pen-pushers recruited under Blair/Brown. The savings could finance things like the abolition of house stamp tax, and reduce council tax.
Most of all, interest in politics could be revived, if people think that their votes count.
